Iraq | Perspectives by Benjamin Lowy is a compelling collection of photographs documenting daily life in Iraq during the war, captured from 2003 to 2008.
Lowy, an embedded photographer, shot many of the images through the windows of Humvees and military-issue night vision goggles. This unique vantage point creates a distinctive, framed perspective on the streets, people, landscapes, and routines of a country in conflict. The book is divided into sections that highlight both daylight scenes and the green-tinted world of nighttime operations, offering an intimate yet detached view of ordinary moments amid extraordinary circumstances.
I was in Iraq in 2009, and I was struck by how this book accurately captured much of the feel. The border used is that of an uparmored window and it really gives the “POV” effect. This book is free of any major defects. Perhaps some slight scratches on the cover.
